Illinois Democrats start the New Year with gun control.
The Illinois Senate Democrats, using parliamentary sleight of hand and underhanded tactics, advance useless gun control. Yesterday the Illinois Senate released SB 337 from the “motion to reconsider”. This allows 30 calendar days for the Senate to certify it and send it to the governor for consideration. In releasing this bill to the desk of newly elected Governor J.B. Prtizker to sign, Illinois democrats are signaling Gun Control could be a priority for the new administration.
SB –337 named the Dealer’s Licensing Act is nothing more than a shallow attempt to use regulatory schemes to drive lawful Federally Licensed Firearms Dealers out of business through the addition of higher fees, onerous regulations and un-funded mandates.
All this in their quest to attempt to deprive Illinois residents of their second amendment rights, beginning with federally licensed sellers.
“Lawful firearms dealers are not the source of crime guns. This has been proven again, and again, and again. The only outcome from this sort of dealer licensing scheme is to further encumber legal businesses from serving their law-abiding customers.” – Roger Krahl, Director, FFL-IL

So is FFL-IL doing anything about this? I’m interesting in helping in the fight and joining FFL-IL, but I want to be assured that you’re actually doing something here. There are too many 2A organizations that just seem more interested in collecting dues than working hard.
Thank you for commenting. Rest assured that we are actively working on behalf of our membership & the 2A community in Illinois. We are the only trade association that has full time paid representation in Springfield. Our lobbyist is on the ground in the fight every day to protect firearms business, owners and hobbyists. We are currently working with the ISP through the rulemaking process to be keep FFL dealers informed on regulations & compliance relating to SB-337, as well as fighting the litany of anti firearm bills in the GA. As an organization of firearms dealers and owners in Illinois, have a solid vested interest in health & well being of the entire 2A community. Really our business depend on it.
Then I will join.
I don’t see any updates to this, or anything, in 2021. I am working slowly to open my gunsmithing business and I know I will lose a lot of potential business from not doing any firearm sales or transfers due to this Act. Luckily I do not have to get this garbage license to operate a gunsmith business.
I can get on board with it to a very small degree with the security measures and a fee, but not that much. My facility will have all of the required security measures already.
I think it is insane that dealers have to provide signed affidavits stating their FFL is real. Anyone can go to the ATF site and do an FFL search to check that. Nobody needs an affidavit to prove their drivers license is real.
Additionally, I believe the real violation to the Constitution is not in the 2nd, but the 4th. The Act states in (430 ILCS 68/5-35) …Illinois State Police or law enforcement may conduct no more than one unannounced inspection per business per year WITHOUT GOOD CAUSE. As a refresher, here is the 4th Amendment:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, SHALL NOT be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon PROBABLE CAUSE, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Their annual search of records is unreasonable, without a warrant, and WITHOUT GOOD CAUSE! How has this been missed and not address in any court?????
I can follow their stupid security and training rules. I could provide a meaningless affidavit to prove my FFL is current. I could pay the insane fee. I will not allow any law enforcement to search and seize my company records and customers private information without a warrant!!! That is a sword I will fall on. What can be done about this? The legislatures responsible for this should have been arrested for this violation. The Governor should have been arrested for signing this violation. My county Sheriff should arrest any law enforcement that would try to act on this violation, including their own deputies.
